Its every woman's fantasy to own a closet full of hi-end shoes and those who claim that they dont fantasise about any such thing, lie. Its a woman's prerogative and the world that we live in adds fuel to the fire. We live in the world of global merchandising, online shopping catalogues, "buy 3 for the price of 2" kinda market frenzy and its difficult not to spend all that you earn on things that you love.
Coming back to my love of shoes. It was a classic "Priya" moment when Big built a huge closet for Carrie in the Sex and the City movie. I looked at my husband with puppy eyes, but saw no reassurance there whatsoever. He does not encourge my love for shoes at all coz he thinks its a complete waste. For one I am not a girly-girl to walk around in heels when I go grocery shopping or on retail therapy of any other form (like many many girls I know). Two, the streets of Mumbai are too harsh for the heels and I salute those who manage to keep the shoes intact after a decent stroll. Three, he thinks I already have enough pairs. (believe me, I don't)
What he does not understand is the nuances. Shoes to me are a form of art...and I await the day when I will own my first pair of Jimmy Choos or Alexander McQueens or Marc Jacobs.
Pros and Cons of wearing high heels (lets get over with the cons first)
Cons for wearing high-heels include:
- They can cause foot pain.
- They can create foot deformities, including hammertoes and bunions (ooh, hurts).
- They can cause an unsteady gait.
- They can shorten the wearer's stride.
- They can render the wearer unable to run.
- Altered forces at the knee caused by walking in high-heels may predispose to degenerative changes in the knee joint (sounds scary , I know).
- Women who wear high heels frequently have a higher incidence of degenerative joint disease of the knees. This is because they cause a decrease in the normal rotation of the foot which puts more rotation stress on the knee (so its said).
- Podiatrists often comment that 75 percent of their business is caused by females wearing tall high heeled shoes.
Pros for wearing high-heels, which are almost exclusively aesthetic, include:
- They change the angle of the foot with respect to the lower leg, which accentuates the appearance of calves.
- They change the wearer's posture, requiring a more upright carriage and altering the gait in what is considered a seductive and sensous.
- They make the wearer appear taller (obviously).
- They make the legs appear longer (again..obviously).
- They make the foot appear smaller.
- They make the gluteal muscles more defined while wearing tight pants (no need to slog in the gym).
I believe, you live just once, hence make the most of it :)

Now I’m thinking why they say, “29% percent women spend more time looking for that perfect heel and fit than looking for a life partner.”
